ESG is a framework of three criteria used to evaluate a company’s sustainability performance and its responsibility to society. It stands for 3 key factors that evaluate a business’s impact on sustainable development and society, namely environmental, social and governance aspects.
The program focused on providing an overview of ESG and its impacts on production and business activities, offering guidance on implementation roadmaps tailored to the scale and characteristics of Vietnamese businesses, and facilitating practical sessions and open discussions between businesses, experts, and regulatory authorities. At the workshop, participating businesses also shared challenges and barriers encountered in the implementation process, while proposing the development of pilot models and support policies to promote ESG adoption in Hue.
In the context of ESG standards increasingly becoming mandatory requirements from export markets and international partners, proactively transitioning toward sustainability is not only a responsibility but also an opportunity for businesses to enhance competitiveness, expand market access, and integrate more deeply into global supply chains. For Hue City, promoting ESG adoption within the business sector is also closely linked to improving the Provincial Green Index (PGI), intending to foster a transparent, business-friendly, and sustainably developed investment environment.
Mr. Cung Trong Cuong, Director of Hue City Institute for Development Studies, affirmed that the application of ESG goes beyond a trend but has become an inevitable requirement for businesses in the context of global integration. Hue City is committed to accompanying businesses in their green transition, gradually enhancing competitiveness, meeting international standards, and effectively participating in sustainable supply chains.
