Driving force for teaching and researching
As the new school year begins, Nguyen Thi Nhu Y, a student from Class 47A, Faculty of Architecture, University of Sciences - Hue University, is more enthusiastic than ever as the lecture halls are now equipped with projectors, LED screens, and a modern sound system. In the context of higher education rapidly transforming with artificial intelligence (AI), open educational resources, and emerging technologies, the university’s modern facilities provide students with richer practical experiences and enable more effective learning and research.
Not only students in technical fields but also those in the social sciences have agreed on the importance of modern facilities in improving training quality. Nguyen Thi Yen Nhi, a student from the Faculty of Political Education, University of Education, Hue University, shared that modern infrastructure has paved the way for new teaching methods, inspiring both teaching and research activities.
The positive feedbacks from students serve as clear evidence that the university leaders have made the sound investment in educational infrastructure. Dr. Le Ho Son, Rector of the University of Education, Hue University, affirmed that the school’s facilities now basically meet the demands of training high-quality human resources for the Central and Central Highlands regions as well as the entire country. The university currently possesses a system of lecture halls, classrooms, offices, dozens of scientific laboratories, language learning rooms, and computer labs equipped with hundreds of internet-connected devices. Its library system includes 2 reading rooms with about 300 seats, over 30,000 books, and a comprehensive collection of digital materials. The entire campus is covered by high-speed Wi-Fi. Students are able to access to shared facilities within Hue University, such as sports fields, gymnasiums, and the Learning Resource Center, etc.
Similarly, the University of Sciences, Hue University has developed a network of “smart” classrooms and a variety of practical laboratories. Associate Professor Dr. Vo Thanh Tung, Rector of the University of Sciences, Hue University, noted that the school’s infrastructure has seen significant improvements, with modern equipment and upgraded classrooms and laboratories that meet the requirements for training high-quality human resources.
Positive support for digital learning
Dr. Bui Van Loi, Deputy Director in charge of Hue University, stated that the current facilities and technical infrastructure of Hue University and its member institutions basically meet the requirements for ensuring the quality of teaching, learning, and scientific research. On average, the land area per full-time student, adjusted by level and field of study, reaches 58.7 square meters, meeting current standards. The average floor area for training purposes is 8.3 square meters per student. As of now, Hue University is managing 272 hectares of area and over 342,000 square meters of floor space, serving approximately 50,000 students.
According to statistics, over 70% of full-time lecturers have standard individual offices. Classrooms, laboratories, and practice rooms have been upgraded and equipped with modern facilities to effectively support the work of teaching and research. On average, each academic program at every level has over 42 textbooks and specialized reference materials; the number of books per student is relatively high, encouraging self-study and independent research. At least 20% of all courses are ready for online teaching in each academic year. The university’s internet bandwidth exceeds the national average for fixed broadband speed in Vietnam, providing strong support for digital learning.
To modernize its infrastructure, Hue University has implemented numerous investment projects in recent years, funded through various financial sources. Notably, 4 major projects with a total investment of up to 560 billion VND have been carried out, focusing on the construction of classrooms, laboratories, libraries, research centers, and student facilities.
In particular, Hue University Urban Area, planned since 1998, represents a strategic step in campus development toward building a modern higher education ecosystem. Currently, about 60 hectares of land, equivalent to 50% of the total planned area, have been cleared and compensated, creating favorable conditions for completing the campuses of the University of Economics, University of Law, and University of Foreign Languages, as well as the Student Service Center and the Faculty of Physical Education.
Additionally, the university continues to mobilize financial resources from the state budget, ODA funds, corporate sponsorships, and international cooperation to invest in building modern, internationally standardized facilities. It is also upgrading and renovating existing infrastructure, prioritizing projects that directly support teaching, research, and student life. Particularly, the university is accelerating digital transformation in education, investing in a unified information technology infrastructure, developing digital learning resources, smart classrooms, and virtual lecture halls.
