Reviewing medical records prior to surgery

A key highlight of the week was the effective collaboration between domestic and international medical teams, ensuring that all craniofacial surgeries were conducted smoothly, safely, and successfully. Many patients with congenital deformities such as cleft lip and palate, jaw misalignment, and overbite/underbite received free surgeries, transforming their appearance and giving them renewed hope in life.

Hue Odonto-Stomatology Hospital is the first medical unit in Central Vietnam to implement upper and lower jawbone reconstruction using a modern process that includes facial imaging scans, 3D modeling, surgical simulation, and comprehensive treatment planning before, during, and after surgery. According to Dr. Le Thua Trung Hau, Head of the Department of Reconstructive and Maxillofacial Surgery, this is a complex technique that typically costs between 80-100 million VND if performed in Hanoi. However, in the surgical week, three patients in Hue received these surgeries free of charge.

The program also hosted specialized workshops to update in-depth knowledge on cleft lip and palate treatment and maxillofacial surgery. Topics included airway management, nasal reconstruction for cleft cases, correction of secondary deformities, and the application of digital technology in surgical procedures.

The 2025 Maxillofacial Surgery Week in Hue affirmed the pioneering role of Hue Odonto-Stomatology Hospital in treating craniofacial deformities in Central Vietnam, opening up access to advanced surgical techniques for many patients.
