This is a practical and meaningful activity with deep humanitarian value, contributing to protecting public health, especially women and children, who are the most affected by secondhand smoke.

The City Women’s Union has been focusing on implementing a wide range of activities that contribute to fulfilling the “healthy lifestyle” criterion. These include tobacco harm-prevention initiatives such as organizing a launching event to call on members and women to support the regulations of banning e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products; conducting communication campaigns and training sessions to enhance health-care knowledge; and promoting the building of family models such as “Women with family members who do not smoke - For a Smoke-free Environment”, “Smoke-free Homes”, and “Healthy and Smoke-free Families”.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Ms. Tran Thi Kim Loan, Vice Chairwoman of Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the city and Chairwoman of the City Women’s Union, requested that all levels of the Women’s Union continue to promote the core role of women in the family by proactively speaking up and encouraging their family members not to smoke; and mobilizing men and the wider community to join women in building “Healthy, Smoke-Free Families”.

Each family member will serve as an active communicator for the City Women’s Union, effectively contributing to the creation of a safe, smoke-free environment for women, children, and the community. Efforts should be strengthened to promote and expand the “Healthy, Smoke-Free Families” model, integrating it with patriotic emulation movements, especially the campaign “Building Families with 5 No and 3 Clean”.

It is not just a slogan but has become a concrete criterion in building progressive families, contributing to the achievement of the sustainable development goals. The role of community monitoring by all levels of the Women’s Union and its members should be strengthened to detect and address legal violations in tobacco harm prevention and control…
