The "Heart for Children" is a program to support free surgery for poor children under the age of 16 in Vietnam as well as to support improving medical capacity, and organize activities of screening for congenital heart diseases for children. The program was established and has been being operated by Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group (Viettel) and the Vietnam Heart Fund of Vietnam Television since 2008.

This is the second time that the "Heart for Children" program came to children in Thua Thien Hue Province. After screening, the cases indicated for intervention or surgery and/or with difficult circumstances, will be guided by the program to make profiles to receive completely free treatment.

During the program’s journey in 2023, medical examinations for nearly 5,000 children were offered in Binh Thuan, Dak Nong, Tuyen Quang and Son La. It is known that over a 15-year journey, the program has supported surgery costs for 6,500 patients, and organized 90 free screening programs to detect congenital heart diseases early for more than 153,000 children in different regions of the country.

As the average operating cost is up to VND 40 million per case, having children with congenital heart diseases is really a burden. The program, which is carried out thanks to the funding from Viettel (with the commitment to sponsor VND 5 billion per year) and the socialization sources, will support the entire cost of surgery for children with congenital heart diseases in difficult circumstances.
The free screening for congenital heart diseases within the "Heart for Children" program is being held for two days, from August 5 to 6 at Hue Central Hospital.
