Hue Tops Overall Standing at the National Sambo & Sambo Youth Championship

HNN.VN - The 2026 National Sambo & Sambo Youth Championship concluded on the afternoon of September 16. Delivering an impressive performance, Hue athletes won a total of 27 medals, finishing ahead of strong teams such as the Army, Ho Chi Minh City, and Hung Yen to take first place in the overall team standings.

 Outstanding Sambo athletes from Hue City

Taking place from September 10 in Bac Ninh, the championship gathered 200 athletes from 11 cities, provinces, and sectors, including Dong Nai, Hung Yen, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Ho Chi Minh City, Danang, the Army, Nghe An, Thai Nguyen, Can Tho City, and Hue City.

During the competition, the youth division featured athletes aged 15 to 18 competing in Sport Sambo across 16 weight classes, equally divided between men and women.

Meanwhile, the senior division was open to athletes aged 18 and over, with competitions held in Sport Sambo and Combat Sambo across 14 men’s and women’s weight classes.

At the championship, Hue’s Sambo team (part of the city’s wrestling program) fielded 25 athletes, including 19 competing in the senior category and 6 in the youth category.

With an outstanding performance, Hue’s Sambo athletes won 9 gold, 9 silver, and 9 bronze medals, including 7 gold medals in the senior division and 2 in the youth division. The medals were secured by Minh Y, Cong Danh, Kim Oanh, Yen Nhi, An Binh, Xuan Nhi, Quynh Nhu, and Pham Phuoc Rin, helping Hue top the overall team standings.

At present, Hue has yet to establish a dedicated Sambo discipline. The city currently draws athletes from its wrestling team to form a Sambo team for each competition. The team’s strong performance at this tournament provided fresh motivation and a foundation for the establishment of a dedicated Sambo discipline in the near future, as the sport continues to show considerable potential in Hue.
