Following Uncle Ho’s footsteps to nurture love for the homeland

HNN.VN - On the morning of August 18, at the Memorial House of President Ho Chi Minh’s childhood in Duong No Village (Duong No Ward), Hue City Youth and Children’s Center, in coordination with Ho Chi Minh Museum of Hue City, organized the 2026 history-learning journey ‘Following Uncle Ho’s Footsteps - Pride in Our Homeland’s Traditions’.

The journey began with more than 100 children taking part in a flower and incense offering ceremony, expressing their deep respect and gratitude to President Ho Chi Minh. In the historic site, they had an opportunity to reflect and learn about historical events associated with his childhood, gaining a deeper understanding of the patriotic tradition and the Vietnamese principle of ‘When drinking water, remember its source’.

The children then visited the site and explored documents, artifacts, photographs and stories about the years President Ho Chi Minh lived, studied and grew up in Duong No. The stories were presented in an engaging and accessible way, helping the children learn more about his homeland and family, as well as his childhood years in Hue.

A highlight of the program was the ‘Following Uncle Ho’s Footsteps’ minigame, featuring interactive sessions and quick questions about President Ho Chi Minh’s background and life, his years living and studying in Hue, memorial sites dedicated to him across the city, as well as stories about his ethics and style.

In addition to learning history through documents and artifacts, the children had hands-on experiences printing woodblock images of the sites and places associated with Uncle Ho in Hue, making Sinh Village folk paintings and taking part in traditional games such as mandarin square capturing and ring toss, along with group activities. These activities offered a lively and engaging way for children to learn about history while gaining hands-on experience suited to their age.

A representative of Hue City Youth and Children’s Center said the program was a practical activity to educate children about revolutionary traditions, history and culture in celebration of the 81st anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2026) and the 81st National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2026).

Following Uncle Ho’s footsteps in Hue, the journey helped nurture among younger generations a love for their homeland, respect for President Ho Chi Minh and pride in the nation’s traditions. It also aimed to raise their awareness of preserving and promoting the historical and cultural values of the homeland.
