The colors of the Bru - Van Kieu people's culture in Phuc Loc village

HNN.VN - On June 24, Hue City Women’s Union, in coordination with the city’s Forest Protection Department, the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the Small Grants Programme (SGP), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), organized the program “The Cultural Colors of the Bru - Van Kieu People” in Phuc Loc Village, Hung Loc Commune.

The activity was part of the project “Developing Sustainable Livelihoods through Sustainable FSC Forest Management and Piloting Community-Based Tourism Associated with the Restoration of Traditional Cultural Activities of Ethnic Minority Communities in Phuc Loc Village, Hung Loc Commune, Hue City”, supported by the Small Grants Programme of the Global Environment Facility.

Phuc Loc Village is the place that preserves many distinctive cultural values of the Bru - Van Kieu ethnic community. Over generations, folk songs, gong performances, traditional handicrafts, cuisine, and community customs have become unique cultural features of the locality. However, amid the impacts of socio-economic development and integration, many traditional cultural values are facing the risk of fading away, requiring collective efforts to preserve and promote them.

Visiting livelihood support models for local residents

At the event, residents and visitors enjoyed traditional dance performances and gong performances, visited exhibition spaces showcasing traditional meals featuring signature dishes of the Bru - Van Kieu people, local food stalls, and regional products, while also participating in activities marking vegetable gardens and seedling nurseries.

Through the program, the traditional cultural beauty of the Bru - Van Kieu people was widely promoted, helping introduce the image of the homeland, local people, and the unique cultural identity of the area to visitors and friends near and far.

Ms. Tran Thi Kim Loan, Vice Chairwoman of Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hue City and Chairwoman of the city’s Women’s Union, said that the activity helped affirm the role of women in preserving traditional cultural values, developing household livelihoods, and participating in forest resource management and protection. It also created opportunities for local women to improve their knowledge and skills, take part in community-based tourism development, build distinctive local products, create more employment opportunities, and increase income. The project is expected to continue promoting the effectiveness of livelihood models associated with sustainable forest management and traditional cultural preservation in Phuc Loc Village, contributing to environmental protection, biodiversity conservation, and the development of a sustainable community.
