Mastering modern techniques
As a special-class hospital under the Ministry of Health, Hue Central Hospital has long pioneered the adoption, mastery, and development of modern medical techniques. From organ transplantation, stem cell grafting, cardiovascular interventions, and advanced surgery to cutting-edge cancer treatments, the hospital has consistently made its mark with national and international professional achievements.
Recently, a medical team at the hospital has successfully performed an emergency endoscopy to remove an open safety pin from the esophagus of a 9-month-old Kazakh infant without complications. This success not only showcases the hospital's high professional expertise and multi-disciplinary coordination but also demonstrates its mastery of modern techniques in handling exceptionally complex cases.
Another significant milestone came when Hue Central Hospital was ranked for the first time by Newsweek magazine in its "Best Specialized Hospitals Asia-Pacific 2026" list for oncology.
In tandem with advancing specialized techniques, Hue Central Hospital is also a pioneer in the digitalization of the healthcare sector. The implementation of an electronic medical management system, cashless payments, electronic medical records, and various IT applications has shortened waiting times, reduced administrative red tape, enhanced service quality, and provided a more convenient experience for patients.
Tran Thi Thin, a resident of Phong Quang Ward, shared that she used to rely on her children and grandchildren for help with hospital procedures. However, with the new digital applications, registering for check-ups and paying medical bills have become significantly more convenient.
Not content with its current achievements, Hue Central Hospital is moving forward with several key projects. These include the Proton Therapy Center, the expansion of its second campus, and the construction of the Hue Central International Hospital 2. Concurrently, the hospital is expanding partnerships with leading global hospitals, universities, and medical organizations to adopt advanced treatment techniques, enhance clinical capacity, and upgrade the quality of its healthcare workforce.
According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Xuan, Deputy Director of Hue Central Hospital, the institution's upcoming focus lies in developing infrastructure, sharpening workforce capabilities, and improving medical services. The hospital will also scale up its international partnerships to integrate modern therapies, aiming to elevate patient care and solidify its position as the premier specialized medical center in Central Vietnam.
Training high-quality human resources
While Hue Central Hospital stands as a leading specialized medical hub nationwide, Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital effectively leverages its " University-Hospital" model, closely integrating clinical care, training, scientific research, and technology transfer. Operating as a first-class general hospital with 700 beds and over 13,450 approved medical procedures, the hospital boasts a highly qualified team of professors, associate professors, doctors, and specialists. This unique advantage enables the institution to simultaneously deliver public healthcare and train high-quality human resources for Vietnam’s medical sector.
In recent years, the hospital has continuously invested in modern equipment and developed various specialized techniques, including gastrointestinal endoscopy, laparoscopic surgery, vascular interventions, and assisted reproduction. Concurrently, the institution has driven digital transformation by deploying a synchronized Hospital Information System (HIS) integrated with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and Radiology Information Systems/Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (RIS/PACS), while implementing electronic medical records and establishing data links with the Ministry of Health and Vietnam Social Security.
According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Khoa Hung, Director of Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, the hospital has identified two core tasks: developing high-quality human resources and investing in modern equipment to deploy specialized techniques, thereby meeting the rising healthcare demands of the public. This also serves as the foundation for the hospital's strategic goals of becoming an advanced medical institution in Southeast Asia by 2030 and reaching international standards by 2045.
The parallel growth of the city’s two major hospitals is driving powerful momentum, positioning Hue’s healthcare sector for a major leap forward in this new stage.
Armed with their strong foundations in medical expertise, technology, human resources, and international cooperation, these two healthcare flagships will continue to play a core role in realizing the goal of transforming Hue into a specialized medical hub and a high-quality healthcare center for Vietnam and the region.
