Attending the launch ceremony was Mr. Tran Huu Thuy Giang, Member of Hue City Party Committee, Vice Chairman of Hue City People's Committee, and Head of Hue Festival 2026 Organizing Committee, along with representatives of Hue Monuments Conservation Center, photographers, and members of the press.

Speaking at the launch event, Vice Chairman Tran Huu Thuy Giang announced that, starting in 2026, the ‘Hue - Ancient Capital, New Experiences’ photography contest will become an annual event held every July as part of Hue Festival. He also revealed that the International Electronic Music Week, featuring Vietnamese and international DJs and scheduled for late August to early September this year, will likewise become an annual event starting in 2026.

The contest is organized by the Festival Organizing Committee under the patronage of Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists, in coordination with Hue City Department of Tourism, the Union of Literature and Arts Associations of Hue City, and Hue Photography Association.

With the theme ‘Hue - Ancient Capital, New Experiences’, the competition seeks to capture the beauty of Hue through the harmonious blend of tradition and modernity. It aims to honor the city's preserved and revitalized heritage while reflecting its dynamic lifestyle, creativity, and aspirations for development. Through diverse artistic perspectives, the submitted works are expected to tell compelling stories about the land and people of present-day Hue, inspire appreciation for the former imperial capital, and further promote Hue – The Festival City of Vietnam.

Entries will portray a wide range of subjects, including the daily lives of Hue's people in their work, study, and community activities; the city's natural landscapes and living environment; tangible and intangible cultural heritage; festivals, traditional craft villages, and folk customs; the interaction between heritage and contemporary life; as well as Hue's notable achievements in the fields of economy, culture, education, healthcare, science and technology, tourism, and urban development.

The contest is open to all Vietnamese citizens, including those living, studying, and working overseas. Submitted works must be single photographs taken within Hue City between 2025 until the submission deadline. Images may be captured using digital cameras, smartphones, drones, or any other legally permitted imaging devices. The Organizing Committee encourages entries that demonstrate creativity, artistic merit, and authentic portrayals of Hue's beauty and vitality during its new stage of development.

Entries will be accepted from July 15th through September 15th, 2026. Each participant may submit up to 15 photographs online through the competition's official website at www.5wphoto.com.

The organizing committee will present 16 awards totalling 91 million VND, including one First Prize worth 20 million VND, two Second Prizes, three Third Prizes, and ten Consolation Prizes. Outstanding entries will be selected for exhibition in Hue in October 2026.

Through the competition, the organizing committee hopes to attract professional as well as amateur photographers, content creators, and photography enthusiasts alike, contributing to the promotion of Hue as a culturally rich, dynamic, welcoming, and internationally connected city, while also building a valuable visual archive to support the city's communication, cultural promotion, tourism marketing, and international outreach efforts.
