Royal lotus at Tinh Lake

In the early summer morning mist, while the weather still carries a hint of chilly breeze, many people passing by Tinh Tam Lake inside Hue Citadel feel as though they have “wandered into a serene space”, where some brew tea, some enjoy tea, others gently pick lotus blossoms, while locals and visitors take the opportunity to pose for photos with the blooming lotus flowers… Tinh Tam has long been a famous scenic spot, once listed by Emperor Thieu Tri as one of the “Twenty finest landscapes of the Imperial Land”. Contributing greatly to the fame of this landmark is the white lotus, also known as the “royal” lotus.

As the fourth lunar month arrives, a month of abundant summer sunshine and peaceful days celebrating Buddha's Birthday, Hue Today Weekly respectfully introduces to readers the “world of serenity through photographs” featuring the lotus flowers at Tinh Lake, captured by Phan Thanh, the photographer.

“Unlike other lotus varieties, the Tinh Tam ‘royal’ lotus only thrives in clean and nutrient-rich water, with a well-circulated flow. Therefore, successful cultivation requires thorough cleaning of the lake bed and maintaining good water circulation. Thanks to these efforts, the Tinh Tam lotus has been revived in recent years, not only enhancing the elegant and noble beauty of this scenic spot, but also spreading a precious brand of Hue,” shared Phan Thanh.
