More than just a simple folk game, “Vai nom tren cat” is also a vivid part of the fishing village’s collective memory, where folk culture and real-life livelihoods naturally blend together. It is also a way for older generations in the village to nurture within younger people a sense of attachment to the sea and respect for the generations who have protected both the sea and their homeland.

With the hope of connecting and spreading that sacred pride, this issue of Hue Today Weekly would like to introduce readers to photo scenes from a “Vai nom tren cat” performance in Thuan An, captured by Duc Quang, a coastal native.
