The 2026 Beach Wrestling World Championships is one stage of the Beach Wrestling World Series, the highest-level competition organized by United World Wrestling for beach wrestling. This is the first time Vietnam has hosted and organized the tournament.
The competition gathered nearly 100 outstanding athletes from 13 countries and territories, competing in weight categories ranging from 70kg - over 90kg (men) and from 50kg - over 70kg (women).
As many global beach wrestling powerhouses, such as the United States, Russia, France, and Greece participated in the event, the Vietnamese team had initially aimed mainly to gain experience and achieve the best results possible. However, thanks to excellent performances, Vietnamese wrestlers have won two gold medals, one silver medal, and four bronze medals. Among them, Nguyen Thi My Hanh and Doan Thi Kim Oanh from the Hue wrestling team secured two bronze medals in the women’s 60kg and 50kg categories, respectively.
“Although it was their first time competing in a world-class tournament, the encouraging thing is that Hue’s athletes competed very confidently and showed no signs of intimidation when facing high-level opponents”, shared Dinh Van Kien, coach of the Hue wrestling team.
Previously, My Hanh and Kim Oanh had also won one silver medal and one bronze medal, respectively, in beach wrestling at the 2026 Asian Beach Games, held from April 21st - 30th in Sanya, China. This was also the first time the two female athletes had participated in the tournament.
