Unity, aspiration, and long-term strategic orientation

Opening the press conference, General Secretary To Lam expressed his pleasure at meeting domestic and international journalists and reporters who had accompanied the Congress and provided timely, vivid coverage of the 14th Party Congress. He thanked media organizations for helping people nationwide, overseas Vietnamese communities, and international friends to fully follow the developments, spirit, and success of the Congress.

Providing information on the results and major orientations of the 14th Congress, General Secretary To Lam emphasized: “This Congress is a Congress of unity and consensus, demonstrating the will, courage, aspiration, determination, and cultural strength of the Vietnamese nation and the Communist Party of Vietnam in a new stage of national development.”

The General Secretary summarized the key “keywords” running throughout the Congress as: unity, democracy, discipline, breakthroughs, development, responsibility, dedication, intellect, science, serving the people; strategic autonomy, self-reliance, confidence, and national pride. All are directed toward the goal of building a peaceful, independent, democratic, wealthy, prosperous, civilized, and happy Vietnam, firmly advancing toward socialism.

The press conference was held after the closing session of the Congress

The 14th Congress reached a high level of consensus on the content of the Congress documents and achieved strong unity and focus on personnel work. The Congress elected the 14th Central Committee of the Party, consisting of 200 members, including 180 full members and 20 alternate members. Immediately after the Congress, the Central Committee convened its First Plenum to elect the Politburo, the Secretariat, the General Secretary, and the Central Inspection Commission, and to assign specific responsibilities to members of the Politburo and the Secretariat.

General Secretary To Lam affirmed that the members of the 14th Central Committee are outstanding representatives of more than 5.6 million Party members nationwide, possessing the necessary qualities, ethics, prestige, capacity, and professional competence, and having earned the high confidence of the Congress to shoulder major responsibilities before the Party and the People in the new revolutionary period.

The Congress also set the orientation for building the 14th-term Central Committee, Politburo, Secretariat, and key leadership contingent as a collective with integrity and strength; highly united in will and action; pioneering, exemplary, disciplined, and law-abiding; daring to think, daring to act, and daring to take responsibility for the noble cause of the Party and the happiness of the People.

The press conference was attended by more than 700 journalists representing domestic and international news agencies, newspapers, radio, and television

Notably, the 14th Congress unanimously adopted historic policy decisions aimed at successfully realizing the two 100-year strategic goals identified by the 13th Party Congress, opening a long-term development vision toward 2030, 2045, and beyond.

Emphasizing action, integration, and international responsibility

At the press conference, in response to questions from domestic and international reporters, General Secretary To Lam particularly emphasized the spirit of action, which is one of the new and prominent features of the 14th Congress. According to the General Secretary, practice has shown that policies may be correct and resolutions well drafted, but implementation is often the weakest link. Therefore, this Congress set very high requirements for swiftly translating the Party’s guidelines and policies into real life, creating concrete and measurable results that the People can see, feel, and benefit from, thereby strengthening the People’s trust in the Party.

On the very day the Congress concluded, the Politburo issued Resolution No. 01 on communication and implementation of the Resolution of the 14th Party Congress. In addition, the Central Committee issued an Action Program to implement the Resolution, requiring Party committees, Party organizations, and Party members at all levels to develop specific action plans with clearly defined personnel, tasks, responsibilities, timelines, and results.

Responding to questions regarding Vietnam’s international responsibilities, General Secretary To Lam quoted President Ho Chi Minh: “Vietnam is a part of the world,” and affirmed that a new feature of the 14th Congress is elevating foreign affairs and international integration to a new level of importance, on par with national defense and security tasks.

According to General Secretary To Lam, in a world facing numerous cross-border challenges such as climate change, natural disasters, pandemics, non-traditional security threats, and conflicts, no country can address these issues alone. After 40 years of the Đổi mới economic reforms, Vietnam has accumulated sufficient position, prestige, capacity, and responsibility to participate more proactively and actively in regional and global issues.

Vietnam will continue to be a responsible member of the United Nations, actively participating in peacekeeping, humanitarian assistance, and search and rescue operations, and will be ready to share development experience and contribute to sustainable development goals, poverty reduction, green growth, and digital transformation. In an increasingly uncertain world, Vietnam remains steadfast in its policy of unity and cooperation, adherence to international law, and readiness to propose and participate in joint initiatives for peace and development.

Concluding the press conference, General Secretary To Lam affirmed his firm belief that, with the Party’s glorious tradition, the strength of great national unity, and the support of the People and international friends, the Resolution of the 14th Party Congress will certainly be implemented successfully, bringing Vietnam toward rapid, sustainable, prosperous, and happy development.
