Leaders of Thanh Thuy Ward visiting and encouraging households to evacuate for safety |
Phu Bai Ward authorities mobilized all available personnel and evacuated nearly 30 households from areas at high risk of landslides, mainly in the villages of Ho, Buong Tam, and Thanh Van. These areas are located along Ta Trach River, a region that has experienced repeated landslides in recent years, especially during periods of prolonged heavy rainfall.
At the evacuation site at Thanh Van Village Cultural House, dozens of households have settled into temporary shelter. Although still worried, residents expressed their sense of security thanks to the timely care and support from local authorities.
Mr. Le Ba Hai Minh, Chairman of Phu Bai Ward People’s Committee, said: “The heavy rainfall in recent days has caused the soil and rocks on the hillsides to become saturated with water, leading to a severe risk of landslides. We urgently mobilized and organized the evacuation of all at-risk households to safe areas on the evening of October 26. Our goal is to prevent any loss of life”.
Along with Phu Bai, nearby wards such as Huong Thuy and Thanh Thuy are urgently conducting inspections and preparing evacuation plans for hundreds of households in low-lying areas, the places are at risk of riverbank erosion. Furthermore, they are ready to relocate residents before the river water levels rise. In response to the complex weather developments, the wards are proactively coordinating and arranging temporary shelters for residents. Many households have been encouraged to move to the solidly built homes of relatives, or to village cultural houses, schools, and administrative offices.
At each village, the storm and flood prevention teams have been activated with 10 to 20 members, mainly consisting of youth union members, farmers, and local militia. These teams are responsible for informing and guiding residents on reinforcing their houses, moving their belongings to safe places, and assisting with transportation and asset protection.

The wards have directed local military forces to be on duty 24/7 at critical locations, ready to respond in case of emergencies. Each storm and flood prevention team in the villages is fully equipped with life jackets, flashlights, motorboats, and necessary rescue equipment. Additionally, the forces of ward police have been assigned to coordinate with local security teams to ensure public order and safety.
In addition to relocating residents, the wards of Phu Bai, Thanh Thuy, and Huong Thuy have contacted and signed contracts with local businesses to stockpile essential food and supplies such as instant noodles, drinking water, rice, cooking oil, medicine, etc. All temporary evacuation sites have been arranged with resting areas and are ensured to have electricity and clean water. Medical teams in the wards have also been mobilized to be on standby, ready to handle any health-related situations, especially for the elderly, children, and pregnant women.
