Vice Chairman of Hue City People’s Committee Hoang Hai Minh reports on response to and overcoming effects for Storm No. 10

Vice Chairman of Hue City People’s Committee and Standing Deputy Head of Hue City Civil Defense Steering Committee, Mr. Hoang Hai Minh, reported to the Deputy Prime Minister, along with central ministries, agencies, and localities, on the city’s efforts in response to and overcoming the effects of the storm.

He highlighted the city’s leadership, prevention plans, mobilization of forces and resources, as well as reported the initial damages caused by the storm. These impacts have been promptly and effectively addressed by local authorities, agencies, and the political system from city to grassroots level, with the highest determination to quickly stabilize the situation.

Vice Chairman Minh noted that, to date, the locality has harvested 99% of the summer-autumn rice crop and 80% of the aquaculture area; all fishing vessels have taken shelter in safe havens. Reservoirs in the area have only reached about 40% of useful capacity, ensuring safety despite rainfall of 200-450 mm recorded over the past two days.

Hue City has evacuated more than 400 households, with around 1.000 residents in coastal communes. Over 3.000 military and police officers have been deployed at full strength, stationed in coastal communes and wards to support residents in coping with the storm. Initial reports indicate that 89 houses were unroofed by tornadoes and one fatality was recorded. On-site forces have urgently assisted residents in addressing storm damage.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha commended Hue City’s timely measures and relatively accurate forecasting of the storm’s trajectory along the coast, which minimized direct impact. However, he emphasized the need for the locality to remain proactive in preparing for flash floods, landslides in mountainous areas, and localized flooding in urban zones.

He also requested that localities continue inspections, mobilize resources, and assign responsibilities clearly; with military and police forces remaining ready to support residents. In critical areas where local forces cannot meet demands, authorities must promptly report to the central government for timely reinforcement and support.

For provinces and cities not directly in the storm’s path but still within its impact zone, the Deputy Prime Minister urged strict and decisive implementation of the Prime Minister’s official directive on storm response, aiming to minimize damage caused by heavy rain and strong winds.
