| Helping people in Phu Vang Commune move dozens of tons of newly harvested rice to higher ground |
At Phu Gia Agricultural Cooperative, Phu Vang Commune, officers and soldiers deployed teams to people's houses to help move dozens of tons of newly harvested rice to higher ground, preventing them from getting soaked and damaged by heavy rain.
Mr. Trinh Dinh Nhu, a resident of Phu Vang Commune (formerly Phu Gia Commune), shared: “My family has only a few members, when we heard that the typhoon would make landfall, dozens of military officers and soldiers promptly arrived to help us move the rice to higher ground and reinforce our house. The image of the soldiers working actively, undeterred by hardship, carrying heavy bags of rice to protect the harvest for the people and minimize damage from the natural disaster, is truly precious.”
Meanwhile, in Hung Loc Commune, the local military force and the militia and self-defense force, consisting of 20 people, quickly spread out to vulnerable villages and locations to help residents trim trees, reinforce houses, and stand ready to assist them when requested.
In the border area of the former A Luoi District (5 communes: A Luoi 1, A Luoi 2, A Luoi 3, A Luoi 4, and A Luoi 5), Lieutenant Colonel Le Van Trung, Commander of the Defense Command of Area 2 - A Luoi, stated: “The district’s Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue has instructed local authorities to review and inspect households at risk of being affected by landslides and flash floods to evacuate them to safe locations. The unit has ordered the deployment of militia forces to guard key bridges and submerged roads to ensure the safety of people. Simultaneously, forces have been dispatched to help locals clear water flows, and clear away broken and fallen trees...”
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Bao Lan, Commander of Regiment 6, said: “The unit is strictly maintaining duty shifts, constantly monitoring the weather situation, and proactively preparing prevention and control plans to ensure absolute safety for people and property. The central focus is on having forces and vehicles ready to mobilize to assist people when requested.”
Due to the impact of Typhoon No. 5, heavy rain is forecasted, and the water levels of the Bo River and Huong River (Hue City) are expected to rise to Alert Level 1 - Alert Level 2 and above Alert Level 2. Therefore, the City Military Command has prepared response plans for every type of natural disaster that may occur in the area following the “Four on-site” motto, especially scenarios for heavy rain, flooding, landslides, flash floods, typhoons, and reservoir operation.

Colonel Le Huy Nghia, Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of the City Military Command, informed that the City Military Command has stockpiled goods for flood and typhoon prevention and control, including: 20,000kg of rice (4,000 bags of 5kg each); 4,000 cartons of instant noodles; 2,000 units of dry food; 100,000 bottles of bottled drinking water (500 ml); and reserved fuel (gasoline, and oil) to ensure stable and continuous supply when disaster and flood forecasts are issued, and throughout the rainy and stormy season.
Military forces in many localities have helped residents move property and reinforce houses to cope with the typhoon, such as bracing rooftops, moving belongings to higher ground, and relocating boats to safe areas. The image of the “Uncle Ho's Soldiers” having urgently arrived to help people minimize typhoon damage demonstrates the spirit of “standing shoulder-to-shoulder with people in difficult moments”.
Currently, 200 officers and soldiers along with hundreds of vehicles of the City Military Command are ready to mobilize to grassroots areas to coordinate with authorities in helping people gear up for flooding and typhoon, especially harvesting rice before the flood arrives as heavy rain continues.
