| Renowned French pianist David Greilsammer performing |
David Greilsammer is known for his inventive and confident performance style. He once performed all of Mozart’s piano sonatas in a single day in Paris and conducted all 27 of Mozart’s piano concertos over the course of nine consecutive concerts. Since 2022, Greilsammer has served as Music Director of Philharmonie Medellín in Colombia and is also a Grammy Award-winning artist. Widely recognized as one of today’s most talented pianists, he is known for his groundbreaking musical projects. He is also the founder and Artistic Director of the Geneva Camerata, one of the world’s most innovative and internationally acclaimed orchestras.
Greilsammer has toured Vietnam twice. His first visit was in June 2024 with the “A Journey with Satie” solo program in Hanoi, where he introduced masterpieces by composer Erik Satie alongside other classical works. In 2025, he returned with the “Fairies, Dreams, and Dances” solo piano tour, collaborating with Vietnam Symphony Orchestra in major cities including Hanoi, Hue, Da Nang, Da Lat, and Ho Chi Minh City. The program led audiences through a magical and versatile musical journey from Schumann and Ravel to Debussy and Gershwin.
His performances are highly acclaimed for their freshness, technical brilliance, and bold experimentation across genres, from Baroque to contemporary music. With “Fairies, Dreams, and Dances”, he crafted a spellbinding atmosphere in Vietnam, performing pieces such as Schumann’s Davidsbündlertänze, Debussy’s Les fées sont d'exquises danseuses (The Fairies Are Exquisite Dancers), Gershwin’s Prelude, Purcell’s Courante, and Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin. His powerful ability to inspire left a lasting impression on both audiences and critics alike.
Though the Hue performance lasted just one hour, it offered the audience a wide emotional range. The hall was solemn and quiet. Greilsammer played with absolute focus, turning the pages of his music sheets with swift, decisive gestures. It’s a hopeful sign that Hue is gradually becoming a promising destination for world-class artists.
Greilsammer shared: “This is my second time in Hue. The audience and the cuisine here are fantastic. I also had the chance to conduct a workshop with young students from Hue Academy of Music. They are incredibly talented and full of potential. Vietnam’s classical music scene is steadily growing and rebuilding. With proper investment in infrastructure and teaching staff, a new generation of remarkable classical musicians could emerge from this place”.
