| Mr. Nhat Chieu, the speaker and researcher, recited ancient verses of Emperor-Monk Tran Nhan Tong during the talk |
The talk on “Path of Enlightenment, path of flowers: Poetry of Emperor-Monk Tran Nhan Tong” was a poetic dialogue between poetry, history, the way of flowers, and the inseparable spirit of Dharma and Life. “Path” is not just a physical road, but also the Way – the path of mindfulness and compassion. The Path of Enlightenment is the path of wisdom, while the path of flowers is the path of pure beauty that Emperor Tran Nhan Tong once walked, lived, and wrote about. It was also the journey of human life from worldly dust to the realm of flowers, from the battle armor to the monastic robe, and from the throne to the serene realm of Yen Tu.
On that journey, Emperor-Monk Tran Nhan Tong - a brilliant monarch, and a Zen master who founded the Truc Lam Zen sect, a vivid embodiment of the ideal of living harmoniously between life and Dharma practice, between action and contemplation, left behind verses imbued with profound wisdom, reflecting the deep spiritual essence of Vietnamese nation.
At the talk, Mr. Nhat Chieu joined with guests in Hue to step into the world of “poetry as religion”, and recited ancient verses to remember a soul that was both steadfast with the nation and open to impermanence. “Emperor-Monk Tran Nhan Tong was a rare, comprehensive individual not only in Vietnam, but also in the world, with great and incredibly profound philosophies...,” affirmed Mr. Nhat Chieu.
