Joy and togetherness
On the wide sandy beach stretching along Thuan An beach, a group of about 30 young people are immersing themselves in team games. The games, such as land rowing, pouring water into bottles, and tug-of-war… required strength and good teamwork coordination. When the whistle of the game master blew, each team put into action the strategies they had discussed beforehand to win. The games ended with laughter; both winners and losers were happy. Nguyen Van Thang (27 years old) shared: “That’s what team building is about. Its purpose is to bond people together, to play and improve group coordination skills, but it’s also a way to relax and strengthen solidarity among everyone in the organization.
In recent years, team building tourism has emerged as a popular travel trend for agencies, units, schools, companies, and groups of friends. Every summer, large tourist groups, especially groups of young people often determine that team building games are a must for having fun.
Team building actually includes indoor activities, often combined with seminars or conferences and this kind of activities usually lasts for a short time. However, this form is less popular compared to outdoor team-building activities. In summer, combining sightseeing and relaxation activities, organizations, companies, enterprises, units, and groups of friends often organize group trips and incorporate team-building games. Wide open spaces, such as beaches and riverbanks are ideal for organizing active games that enhance team spirit. The games held during these trips are team-oriented. All participants need to unite and coordinate with each other to complete the challenges.
Unlike pure picnics, traveling combined with team building offers participants new experiences at the destination. The integration of sightseeing and relaxation activities with jolly and relaxing group games in a lively collective environment helps members of an organization learn from each other’s experiences in work, study, and life, thereby improving work and study efficiency.
Nguyen Tuong Vy, an employee at a company in Hue City shared: “What’s special about team building is that it shortens the distances, not only creating closeness and warmth between superiors and subordinates but also increasing team spirit. In fact, I’ve seen colleagues who weren’t close before. When they are placed on the same team, playing team-building games together, they have to communicate, share, and solve the challenges posed by the games. Gradually, they become more open. After the team building trip, it seems like they become closer; and their relationships, communication, and teamwork improve noticeably”.
Diverse formats, new tours emerge
A representative of Dai Bang Tourism Joint Stock Company stated that the most common trend in choosing team-building travel comes from businesses and groups. With the desire to relieve stress after long working periods and workforce changes, team building trips can strengthen team spirit through engaging games, thereby fostering a culture of empathy, sharing, and unity within the organization.
Nowadays, based on the needs of tourists, organizations design suitable team building scenarios and formats. For example, team building activities for young people require jolly and active games that demand physical and mental effort, including puzzle-solving games. While the activities for office workers and companies which are characterized by long hours of sitting, team-building games are designed to include relaxing physical activities that help increase solidarity among members, thereby strengthening the unity of the entire group. Some groups of elderly are also willing to participate in team building games. For this group, team-building activities are usually gentle and aim at improving health and relaxing the mind.
The vibrant summer and team-building travel activities add a fresh splash of color to the peak domestic travel season. The key factors of playing to understand, playing to bond, and playing for better learning and working are the reasons why team building is chosen so often every summer.
