As scheduled, on the morning of February 7, thousands of locals and visitors flocked to the communal house area of Lai An village (also known as Sinh village), Duong No Ward (Thuan Hoa District) to watch the wrestling festival. The Sinh village wrestling festival is a traditional festival with a rich martial spirit, and over 400 years old in the Ancient Capital land.
Immediately after the ritual performed by the village elders and the wrestling ceremony taking place from early morning, the festival officially began with the resounding drum beats and the echoing cheers of audience.
Like every year, the Sinh village wrestling festival applies the principle of having to knock down the opponents in the “muddy back, white belly” position to be the winner. In the qualifying round, the wrestlers have to overcome two consecutive opponents to enter the next round.
In addition to praying for favorable weather, the Sinh village wrestling festival also aims to promote the martial spirit, courage, self-confidence, and intelligence, as well as encouraging people to practice health, etc.
A unique feature of the Sinh village wrestling festival is that any audience can register to compete, not necessarily locals. This makes the wrestling festival always remain exciting, thrilling, and attractive throughout its duration.
